Air Marshal Les Fisher AO
On the occasion of his retirement from the Air Force after 37 years, Air Marshal Les Fisher was praised for his dedication, energy and integrity. The former Chief of Air Force, Les Fisher now consults to the aviation industry and government. He is Chairman of Aerospace Australia Ltd; a member of the CAE Australia Advisory Board; and a board member of the Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Foundation. A pilot, he served the Royal Australian Air Force from 1960–98, accumulating more than 5000 hours over four operational flying tours in maritime patrol squadrons. Following his posting as Commandant Australian Defence Force Warfare Centre, Les Fisher was promoted from the role of Assistant Chief, Defence Force for Operations, to Deputy Chief of Air Force and finally Chief of Air Force, a position he held for three-and-a-half years during a period of significant restructuring from 1994 until his retirement in 1998. An Officer in the Order of Australia (1993), he was also awarded the United States Legion of Merit in 1996.
