South Australia - The Defence State

The South Australian Government is proudly pro-defence.

The State Government has taken a number of steps to make sure South Australia retains its competitive edge:

• it recruited the best brains in the business to serve on the Defence SA Advisory Board, the state’s focal point for high level strategy and policy advice
• it established Defence SA as Australia’s only dedicated state agency for all defence-related matters, and
• it embedded key performance targets - to double the defence sector’s contribution to our state’s economy to $2 billion, and to increase the defence workforce from 16,000 to 28,000 - within the state’s most public document, South Australia’s Strategic Plan.

This total government commitment is underpinned by the state’s active industry body -  the Defence Teaming Centre. With over 200 members, the Defence Teaming Centre provides expert support to members, particularly SMEs, to help them improve their competitiveness in winning defence business opportunities.
