WORLD-CLASS MARITIME PRECINCT

The State Government has invested over $300 million to develop Australia's premier naval industry hub - Techport Australia. This world-class precinct will support construction of the $8 billion AWDs. Techport Australia will feature:

  • common-user shipbuilding facilities (Australia's largest ship lift, transfer system and wharf)
  • 35+ hectare supplier precinct where subcontractors can establish operations on-site and develop strong, efficient supply chains
  • Commercial and Education Precinct incorporating the Maritime Skills Centre and the high-tech AWD Systems Centre, housing all the engineering disciplines needed to design, build and deliver the AWDs.

The world-class infrastructure and critical mass of warship design, systems integration and construction skills provide the perfect foundation for a long term sustainable maritime sector. The multi-purpose facilities are available to support a range of projects concurrently, and land has been reserved for future expansion.

MAJOR MARITIME PROJECTS

In addition to the $8 billion AWD project, other significant maritime projects currently underway in South Australia are:

  • multi-billion dollar, 25-year Collins class submarine through-life support contract
  • Landing Helicopter Dock mission system design, development and integration
  • ANZAC ship combat system in-service support contract.
  • assembly of 12 future submarines.

The AWD's Undersea Warfare Sonar System will also be delivered by Ultra Electronics from its new regional base in Adelaide.
