Well Prepared

WORLD-CLASS CAPABILITY

Key electronics and systems capabilities in South Australia include:

  • All of DSTO's information and weapons systems divisions
  • RAAF's Aerospace Operational Support Group, specifically the Information Warfare Wing, including the Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Unit, No 87 Squadron (intelligence) and No 462 Squadron (information domain)
  • Jindalee Operational Radar Network Coordination Centre
  • Air Warfare Destroyer Systems Centre.

South Australia's strong defence electronic and systems industry is largely concentrated in Technology Park Adelaide, South Australia's high technology precinct. An ultra high-speed data link connects the precinct to the State's major research institutes and other defence-focussed precincts.

A new Secure Electronic Common User Facility is also being established in the precinct to support advanced engineering and research activities, including modelling and simulation of complex networks. This multi-level security, common use environment will be a hub for universities and industry, particularly SMEs, along with key defence customers to work collaboratively on innovation and commercialisation opportunities.

MAJOR ELECTRONICS AND WEAPONS SYSTEMS PROJECTS

Significant electronics and weapons systems projects currently underway in South Australia include:

  • Jindalee Operational Radar Network system
  • Project Echidna - electronic warfare self protection for ADF aircraft
  • Air Warfare Destroyers - weapon systems integration
  • Light Helicopter Dock mission system design, development and integration
  • ANZAC Class enhanced anti-ship missile defence
  • Project NAIAD (Phase 2) - geospatial information infrastructure and services.

Adelaide is on track to secure the new Joint Electronics Warfare Centre.
