Project Overview
One of the most significant shipbuilding projects in Australia’s history.
Currently in the build phase, the three HOBART Class AWDs will be delivered between 2013 and 2016.
These AWDs will provide air defence against attacking missiles and aircraft. With a range of 5000+ nautical miles, they protect land forces and infrastructure in near-coastal areas as well as other ships.
This project will be transformational for South Australia’s economy, with economic benefits estimated in excess of 1.4 billion dollars over the next decade. It will create over 3000 direct and indirect jobs – these will range from highly skilled trades through to naval architects, engineers, project managers, systems engineers and systems integrators.
